About This Community

Welcome to the Hearth at Southbury! We’re proud of our warm, family-like atmosphere. Many of our residents and visitors have shared that when they walked through the front door, it felt as if they were walking into a grand Georgian Colonial style mansion.

We are located right in the heart of Southbury, on Main Street South. However, our community is set back with a beautiful pond out front, wide walkways, outdoor benches, and scenic landscaping. We are also next-door neighbors to the Southbury Senior Center that hosts some wonderful events. Many of our residents are members.

Our residents enjoy our fun, welcoming communal spaces that always have something to do. Our first-floor library is a favorite, especially in the winter. (It’s a great place to cozy up by the fire and read a good book!) Our community pub is busy year-round and residents often visit it to enjoy their cup of coffee in the morning while reading a complimentary newspaper, or mingle with friends in the afternoon while enjoying a drink and hors d’oeuvres at our daily social hour.

We also have two large rooms on the first floor that host many of our daily activities. Southbury Square is the largest of the two, is host to movies on our big screen with surround sound, daily exercise, entertainers, and educational presentations. In the other Activity Room our residents enjoy small group activities like puzzles, Wii bowling, Think More trivia games, and arts and crafts.

And, if family members want to get in on the fun, they’re more than welcome! Our two large “country kitchens” are great spots to enjoy a holiday meal, birthday celebration, or family gathering.

If you’re looking for an Assisted Living or Memory Care community that fully embraces what it means to Live More®, we’d love to meet you. Schedule a visit to meet our team and see our beautiful community for yourself.

I work as a server in the Hearth’s kitchen and it’s both a great work environment and an excellent senior living... facility. The conditions are top quality, our staff is friendly and caring, and the architecture is more akin to that of a nice hotel than what one thinks of when they hear ‘senior home’. If you are looking for quality residence for a loved one in Connecticut, the Hearth is a top choice.read more

My mother has been a resident here for two years and we have been very pleased. She likes it. It's bright and clean,... the food is good and the staff is generally friendly and caring. There will be exceptions to every generalization, and there have been, but whenever we've had something to discuss, the managers have been very attentive to doing what they can to make things better. I travel quite a bit and it's very comforting to know that Mom is someplace where she feels at home and I know she'll be well attended.read more

I brought my mother to The Hearth in June 2012. For 3 years she was at the Hearth and did quite well. The staff is... very sweet and attentive. There were plenty of activities. The food was delicious, although she put on 36 pounds rather quickly. There were a couple of problems in the beginning where her ADL's were not tended to regularly throughout the day but after I brought it to the attention of the staff, this seemed to improve. The APRN who tended to my mother seemed to have a preference to keep her sedated and I had to advocate for my mother to reduce the dose and allow her to come out of the near-comatose state this APRN was keeping her in. After that, things were consistently wonderful.Last month, June 2015, she had a fairly routine medical condition that went unnoticed by the staff. I am not sure if regular toileting would have revealed this or not. Unfortunately this infection persisted and sent her into a severe medical state. The initial signs were patient complaint of not feeling well, and by the time I saw her, rapid breathing and tachycardia, which could have been easily noticed and assessed by any nurse who was paying any attention at all. Remember, this was a dementia patient so the medical staff are trained to be more attentive to their patients than normal, since they often cannot express themselves! I visit once to twice a week and on this visit, she was complaining that she didn't feel well and her breathing and heart rate were very fast. I was the one who called the APRN in to see her. Nothing had been done by the nurse at the Hearth. I shudder to think of what would have happened if I didn't show up that day! My mom spent 6 days in the hospital and was to be discharged with cardiac medication, the first medical prescription rather than behavioral, that she has ever taken. This necessitated that she take these meds every day, and The Hearth admitted that they could not be sure to do this, as my mother was often difficult and refused to take the drugs. I moved my mother to a memory unit 1 mile from my home so that I could get over there daily and make sure she took her medication. The Hearth has a policy that they want 30 days notice if they cannot meet the resident's medical needs. This is ridiculous. How can you know 30 days in advance that the resident is going to become so medically compromised? The Hearth collects a deposit upon admission. They have been holding on to her $6500 for 3 years, and although the "agreement" states the above policy about 30 days, it does not state that there will be a charge if the 30 days is not met. The Hearth is keeping $6500 of my mother's money because she is too sick, NOW, to live there. Does that make sense to anyone?read more

The Hearth

On Saturday, October 10th, Jill and Scott were married at The Hearth at Glastonbury in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Scott and Jill requested to have the wedding at The Hearth because they wanted Scott’s mother, Maria, a Hearth resident, to be a part of their special day. For safety precautions due to COVID-19, Maria was unable to travel to their original wedding location, so the couple came to her! It was a wonderful ceremony and a picturesque day. They were married in the gazebo on our grounds. Champagne colored hydrangeas surrounded the gazebo with tall autumn leaves in the background. Jill’s bouquet was arranged with red, white, peach and champagne flowers and sage colored leaves. The ceremony was very unique as everyone was wearing masks. In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, all guests were properly social distant at 6 ft. apart. Despite the unusual circumstances it was a beautiful ceremony. ... See MoreSee Less
